While watching a ball drop in Times Square on television satisfies a lot of people, just as many prefer going out and "painting the town red" to herald in the New Year.
Payson is no exception to that revelry rule.
At least seven bashes are on Payson's agenda for New Year's Eve.
Mazatzal Casino's '20s and '30s theme promises to be nothing short of spectacular, said Marketing Director Carol McCauley.
"We did this last year, too, and it was a big success. People came dressed as flappers and other characters from the period," she said.
Festivities begin at 8:30 p.m. in the casino's entertainment room with a dinner of lobster and filet mignon, salad and dessert, followed by a comedy show featuring the group Comedy Dads.
The show's participants perform skits based on their newly acquired roles as fathers and the trials and tribulations accompanying parenthood.
"The comedians in the show have been featured on the Tonight Show, so I told them they should bring nothing more than a G-rated show for our Payson audience," McCauley joked.
After the comedy show, Sonoran Swing, a big band ensemble, will provide dancing music from 10 p.m until the wee hours of the morning.
At midnight, complimentary champagne will be served to toast the New Year.
Cost of attending New Year's at the casino is $50 per person.
McCauley said the casino will pick up and drop off anyone who wishes.
"Our shuttle service, which comes at no charge, will pick people up right from their homes and take them back at the end of the evening, all they have to do is give us a call and make arrangements," she said.

The Main Street Grille also offers a New Year's Eve celebration.
Seating at Main Street Grille begins at 5 p.m. and takes place again at 7:15 and 9:30.
Prices vary for each seating with a $20 price tag at 5 p.m., $25 at 7:15, and $35 at 9:30.
Their New Year's menu consists of slow-cooked prime rib, bacon-wrapped scallops sautéed in garlic butter, steamed Bahama vegetables, rice pilaf, mini croissants and assorted desserts.
Complimentary champagne is served at midnight.

The Buffalo Bar and Grill invites area partiers to join them New Year's for their celebration.
They will have a DJ taking requests from 8:30 till midnight.
A $5 cover charge is required after 9 p.m.
After toasting the New Year at midnight with complimentary champagne, a buffet will be available for partiers who decide to stay until closing at 2 a.m.
The bar and grill will offer regular menu items, including their Monday spaghetti and meatballs with garlic toast special for $7.95.
Rim Country Lanes chimes in the New Year as well, with adult and family oriented celebrations beginning with the family bowling party from 7 to 9 p.m.
Lane rental for the entire two hours costs $40 per family and includes shoe rental.
Free games and apple cider to toast the New Year at 8:30 will be available.
The adult party begins at 9:30 p.m., and lasts until 12:30 a.m. for $20 per person, which includes lane and shoe rental.
A champagne toast at midnight comes with party favors and a prize wheel.

Kelly's Saloon in Star Valley rocks in the New Year with promotion giveaways and prizes.
The Elk's Lodge offers a New Year's bash for members and guests only, from 6 p.m. until the party ends, consisting of a sit-down dinner and live music to dance in the fledgling year.
For a $15 price tag, those attending get cocktails at 6 p.m., and a prime rib dinner with all the trimmings starting at 7 p.m., followed by live Country and Western music featuring Brooks and Yoder.
A light breakfast for $3 is offered after the party for people to get a little something in their stomachs before they begin the trek home.
And finally, for those who would prefer a Christian oriented evening, The Meeting Place offers a New Year's concert for attendee's enjoyment.
Recording artist and songwriter Don Budd provides inspirational music beginning at 7 p.m.
Refreshments will be served.
