Archie R. George, 85, died Jan. 25, 2007 in Boulder City, Nev.
He was born May 6, 1921 in Evansville, Wis. to Floyd and Daisy (Frazee) George.
Mr. George married Betty J. Hurd on May 19, 1940 in Dubuque, Iowa.
He served in the Navy during World War II in the Pacific/Philippines and was a member of the Henderson, Nev. American Legion Post No. 0040.
Mr. George was a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Janesville, Wis. for 30 years. After retirement in 1978, Mr. and Mrs. George spent summers at their place on Fish Lake near Roxbury, Wis. and winters at their home in Sun City. For seven of the last nine years, Payson became their year-round home.
Mr. George also had a three-piece band for many years and played at various sites throughout southern Wisconsin and more recently enjoyed playing for the Senior Center and the Moose Lodge in Payson.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Betty, of Boulder City, Nev.; daughter, Judy (Robert) Glennie; two grandchildren, Sheila Glennie and Ronald (Stephanie) Glennie; and one great-grandson, Logan Glennie, all of Henderson, Nev.
He was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother Stella (Burt) George, and sister, Alice Jones, all of Evansville, Wis.
A visitation was held Jan. 29 at the Boulder City Family Mortuary, followed by a funeral service at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery with Chaplain Marvin Gant officiating and military honors presented by the United States Navy.
Burial will be at the Milton Lawns Memorial Park in Janesville, Wis.
Memorial donations in Mr. George's name may be made to the American Lung Association or Paralyzed Veterans of America.
