The Hashknife Pony Express made their 49th ride from Holbrook to Payson Wednesday afternoon. They exchanged mailbags in front of Creekside Restaurant. This year the weather was not in their favor. It started to snow early in the morning and continue to come down before they reached Creekside.
That makes for slippery roads, but don't count these guys out. They are very professional riders and know just how to handle their horses. You know how the old saying goes, "Whether snow or sleet or hail, the mail goes through," and it did on this Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2007, in Christopher Creek.
Pony Express rider Conrad Young and his horse, Dolly, passed one of the mailbags to Casey Unger and his horse, Princess, in an awful lot of snow. Great job, guys.
Arizona has the only Pony Express that is sanctioned by and still delivers the mail for the U.S. Postal Service. The Hashknife Pony Express make this ride every year during the Parada del Sol festival. They travel 200 miles from Holbrook to Scottsdale and deliver around 20,000 first class letters by horseback. It is pretty impressive.
This year, I decided to climb on one of the horses and see what it would be like to be a Hashknife Rider. I have been watching them come through Christopher Creek for 15 years and thought it would be nice to try it out. I have never seen a woman Pony Express Rider, so I asked the trail boss why they didn't have any women on board.
Don't forget the Super Bowl this Sunday. You can catch it at Creekside Steakhouse, where they will be serving hors d'oeuvres during the game.
My husband is rooting for the Colts, but said the Bears will win it. My mother likes Payton Manning, so she will be rooting for the Colts also.
I really don't care who wins this year and will watch it just for the crazy commercials.

Come out and meet your neighbors. Karen lives on Columbine Lane, second house from the car wash.
