Buy Now: Tickets For Region Tournament Will Sell Fast

Fans interested in attending the upcoming East region tournament shouldn't wait until game day in Snowflake to purchase their tickets.

Those who do hesitate, risk being shut out of the tournament.

East officials are anticipating that a heavy demand for tickets, especially from Alchesay Whiteriver supporters, will result in tickets being scooped up quickly once they go on sale in Payson at 1 p.m. Feb. 8 Thursday.

Alchesay traditionally draws 4,000 to 5,000 fans for regional and state tournament games.

The tournament will be played Feb. 9 and 10 in Snowflake High School's new gymnasium that has a seating capacity of about 1,000 persons.

PHS athletic director Dave Bradley said, he would travel to Snowflake Thursday morning to pick up Payson's allotment of 400 tickets.

Those will then go on sale for $5 each until 5 p.m. that same day in Bradley's office.

"Anyone wanting to attend the games should buy their tickets then and not wait until they go to Snowflake," Bradley said.

East athletic officials project few, if any, tickets will be available at the door.

First or second?

The final results of the East region standings and the seedings into the postseason tournament hinge on the outcome of Alchesay vs. Payson make-up games played Monday in Wilson Dome (results not available at press time).

The games were postponed twice earlier in the season due to snow and hazardous road conditions in the White Mountains and Rim Country.

If the PHS teams finish second in the final regular season standings, the boys team would open play at 2 p.m. Feb. 9.

A second-place finish for the Lady Horns would have them opening the tournament at noon.

If the boys win the East championship, they would begin tournament play at 7:30 p.m. A girls first-place finish would have the Lady Horns tipping off at 5:30 p.m.

The tournament wraps up with championships and third- and fourth-place games the following day.

The region's top four finishers earn berths in the state tournament scheduled to begin Feb. 14 at Walkup Skydome on the campus of Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff.

The East opening round games are against the North region's four qualifiers.
