The Gila County Sheriff's Office, in conjunction with the Gila County Attorney's Office and the Arizona Department of Public Safety are hosting a Citizens Police Academy, scheduled to begin Feb. 28.
The Citizens' Academy will meet from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Wednesdays in the board of supervisors' hearing room at the Gila County Courthouse in Globe for 10 consecutive weeks. Citizens will receive training in the following areas:
- History of law enforcement
- Criminal and traffic law
- Patrol operations
- DUI
- Accident investigations
- K-9 operations
- Narcotics
- Dispatch operations
- Jail operations
- Firearms and Taser
- Volunteer programs
- Search and seizure/search warrants
