Thomas L. "Tom" Holtzen, a frequent visitor to Strawberry, where he died Feb. 5, 2007, was born in Sioux City, Iowa, on Sept. 10, 1947.
He moved to Phoenix in 1951. He graduated from Washington H.S. in 1965 and joined the Air Force in 1968, proudly serving for four years.
He operated large equipment all over Arizona to drill for power poles to deliver electricity. After more than 24 years with APS, he took an early retirement.
Tom is survived by his mother, Jean Holtzen, his sister Patricia and brother-in-law James R. Schultz, his brother Tim Holtzen, his sister Cathy Holtzen, and six nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are at 10:45 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 15 at Best Funeral Chapel, 501 East Dunlap Ave., Phoenix, with visitation available at 9:45 a.m.
A military honors burial ceremony will begin promptly at 1 p.m. at National Memorial Cemetery, 23029 N. Cave Creek Rd, followed by an informal gathering.
