The Annual Whispering Pines Fire District Dinner and Awards Ceremony was held on Feb. 16 at the home of Harry and Nancy Jones in Rim Trail.
We all thank Nancy and Harry for decorating their home each year for this very enjoyable and worthwhile event. Everyone had a great time.
Chief Essary presented various Awards of Recognition to all of our firefighters and support personnel.
The top award went to Engineer Bob Seiler for outstanding volunteer service as Apparatus Officer, responsible for maintaining our fire apparatus. Bob had his name engraved on the "Volunteer of the Year" plaque and was presented a "WPFD Firefighter of the Year 2006" shirt as has been the tradition of WPFD for the past six years.
The impact statement has been submitted and approved for Bonita Creek to become a part of the Whispering Pines Fire District. The Bonita Creek resident petitioning process has now been started to obtain signatures of those in favor of the service.
Chief Mark Essary and Cheryl Sandell have announced their engagement and upcoming wedding. More plans will be announced later.
Lisa Ehlers of Whispering Pines and a member of the WPFD Auxiliary has donated a hand-pieced quilt top that was made by her mother, Audrey Tan, to the Auxiliary to be hand-quilted and raffled off on Labor Day. Ticket sales will begin on Memorial Day.
Any lady who is interested in helping with the hand-quilting may meet at Lisa's house in Whispering Pines, each Monday at 9 a.m. until the quilt is finished.
The Family Movie Night will be Saturday, Feb. 24, at 7 p.m. The movie will be "Ice Age: The Meltdown." Snacks will be provided, so come on over to Station 71 for a fun time.
Family Movie Night is sponsored by Dairy Queen, PostNet and Pine Creek Fudge and Ice Cream. Donations received from moviegoers are used for events like the awards ceremony.
The next fire board meeting will be on Wednesday, March 14, at 6 p.m. Everyone is invited to attend.
The WPFD Auxiliary meeting for March will be at Pat Durham's house in Geronimo Estates on March 12 at 1:30 p.m.
With our fire district constantly growing as additional communities are accepted, we are in need of more volunteers. Anyone interested in becoming a firefighter, emergency medical technical or part of the support group of volunteers, call the office at (928) 474-3088. If no one answers, leave your name and phone number for Chief Essary to return your call.
