The Town of Payson is currently in a holding pattern with the Event Center that was approved by the council in July.
Town Manager Fred Carpenter said the town has hired Moyes & Storey, a Valley-based law firm to work on issues of the lease.
He mentioned that Moyes & Storey was heavily involved in the Arizona Diamondbacks stadium, as well as the Phoenix Suns arena.
"We have got a good guy on the job," Carpenter said.
The town's legal department designed a lease agreement and is waiting to hear back from Bill Simms, who works for Moyes & Storey.
The town would lease 10 acres on a hillside for a hotel. Once the town builds a hotel and conference center, a company, which has yet be determined, will purchase the hotel.
To initially fund the cost of the event center construction that does not include the hotel, the town will issue a bond.
The council is exploring other entities, such as the county and an adjacent development to chip in toward the cost.
Contrary to early reports, the hotel in question will not be controlled by the Hilton chain.
Mayor Bob Edwards this past week said he will have some questions about the hotel since the Hilton hotel chain will not be involved.
The Payson Event Center will be located on the south side of town, across from the Mazatzal Casino on the Beeline Highway.
Carpenter said the remodeled event center will have many more amenities than what is currently available in Payson.
Carpenter said the Event Center will be a 97,500-square foot complex, with a covered events area, practice arena, spectator seating and vendor facilities.
The 150-room hotel, conference center and restaurant will be located on the north side of the event center property.
