The Star Valley Town Council meets tonight to discuss a resolution regarding the acquisition of a ZIP code for the town from the U.S. Postal Service. The council will also decide on what public projects they intend to spend government grant money.
Mayor Chuck Heron said that the council will decide on a resolution requesting a ZIP code.
The council will eventually take the resolution to the Gila County Board of Supervisors and the Payson Town Council in hopes that they will support Star Valley's ZIP code quest, Heron said.
Heron said that the council is trying to garner as much support as possible from areas surrounding Star Valley before they take the matter to the U.S. Postal Service.
"A lot of things are impacted by a ZIP code," Heron said. "Insurance rates and sales tax are just two examples."
The council will also decide on what projects they intend to spend Community Development Block Grant money.
CDBG funding comes from the Arizona Department of Housing for projects that improve the community. The council must submit what projects they want to use the grant money for before it will be awarded.
