This is the coldest I have ever seen it in Christopher Creek. Absolutely nothing is thawing out.
The creek looks like it is completely frozen, but it's not. Make sure that if your kids go out to play, you watch them if they venture near it.
And if you plan to drive over to Columbine Road, I would suggest you take Columbine Road and not cross over the "car washing" on Ford Lane. The ice is pretty thick and you wouldn't want to end up in the creek.
Everything seems to be a sheet of ice, and I don't know about you, but I am about ready to head for a warmer climate.
Those of you who are part-time residents need to have someone check on your places. There have been several frozen pipes in the area. One of my cabins had a pipe freeze, and we keep our heat on 50 when no one is in there.
It seems that wasn't warm enough for the very cold temperatures overnight. The wind chill factor makes it even colder.
If you have pets, please don't leave them outside in this cold too long.
There is still snow on the ground in Christopher Creek and we are expecting more this weekend. If you like the snow, come up and find a place to sled. If you don't want to bring your sleds, Tall Pines Market here in Christopher Creek sells them, along with all your needs to stay warm.
I spoke with Karen Thorton of the Christopher Creek Homeowners Association and she said Judy Toole calls her every weekend to see if they want to start taking down the decorations along the highway from Christmas. They think about it and then decide it's too cold.
She said, they are shooting for Valentine's Day.
I went down to the little store yesterday and the county was in front of me, plowing and putting down ashes on the ice.
I want to thank them for putting ashes on Hunter Creek Drive. There are some very icy places still on that road and you need to be careful driving on it.
Also, in front of Creekside Steakhouse, there is a very long section of ice as well as in front of Grey Hackle and down by the Lodge.
If you are driving at night you need to be aware of black ice on some of the roadways.
The Hunter Creek Homeowners Association meeting is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 27, at 1 p.m. at the fire hall.
