Sex Offender May Have Attended Area School

A 29-year-old convicted sex offender from Oklahoma, who allegedly masqueraded as a 12-year-old, is under investigation by local authorities.

Neil Havens Roderick II, who was going by the name Casey Price as a 12-year-old, was arrested in Yavapai County last week after his roommate tried to register him in a charter school in Chino Valley.

Payson Police Commander Don Engler said the department's investigation revealed the man was never enrolled in a Payson school. However, there is a chance the man may have been registered in a nearby district and possibly could have attended classes while masquerading as a 12-year-old.

Gila County Sheriff's Office Detective George Ratliff said he knew the man was living in the area because he had registered as a sex offender from California. When the man told him he was moving to El Mirage in Maricopa County, the GCSO contacted that town's police department.

Ratliff said he does not have any information on the case yet, but added he was typing up a search warrant and was going to talk to officials of a nearby school to determine if Roderick may have enrolled or attended.
