No Excuse For State Of Humane Society Shelter

Editor:

I just read the article in the Roundup, published Jan. 26, regarding the terrible state of our Humane Society.

We should all be so ashamed, me included. We have a beautiful town, forests and parks. It is clean and wonderful to live here and then there is our pathetic Humane Society.

Payson Humane Society keeps plugging along, sheltering as many unwanted, unloved, and lost animals as they possible can, relying on the kind hearts of volunteers and the charity of this town to protect as many pets as possible. They are desperately in need of help.

Payson has a population of approx 14,000 (U.S. Census, 2000), and I am sure it is many times that today. What if every pet owner and every animal lover in this town donates $20 to the Humane Society, if you can't afford $20, how about $10 or $5?

Can you imagine how much of a difference that would make?

Come on, Payson. Let's all pull together and help out a very worthwhile organization. Let's make it a warm and safe haven for the animals, do something positive, help get rid of this shameful situation, and build on something we can all be proud of.

I'm donating $20, how about you?

Cherry Marrone, Payson
