Road Changes Near Post Office Still Being Discussed

After a public meeting about possible changes to Colcord Road and Frontier Street near the post office brought no positive comments from the public, the Surface Transportation Advisory Committee (STAC) will have to consider other options to ease traffic congestion in that area.

The proposed changes include the removal of the one-way travel restrictions and creation of a two-way street along Frontier in front of the post office. The plan called for the addition of right-turn-only restrictions at the intersections of Frontier and Highway 87 and Colcord and Main Street.

Town engineer LaRon Garrett said, because public comments were not in support of the plan, the STAC will revisit the matter at its next meeting on Aug. 1.

Garrett said other options will be considered, including the possibility of widening parts of Colcord and Frontier or making changes to Frontier and leaving Colcord the same.

Ultimately, STAC will make a recommendation to the Payson Town Council, which has the final decision on any proposed changes.

Garrett said public comments are still being taken into consideration.
