A bomb threat forced the evacuation of the Gila County Courthouse in Globe Monday at approximately 1:15 p.m.

According to Lt. Mike Johnson of the Gila County Sheriffs Office, a sheriff's department switchboard operator in Globe received the bomb threat in a phone call just before 1:15 Monday afternoon.

Johnson said both the bomb squad and K-9 units were immediately dispatched to the scene to determine the danger.

"It was really pretty uneventful," Johnson said. "When we arrived, we evacuated the entire building and after a complete and exhaustive search of the entire building, it was determined that no bomb was present." According to the release from the sheriff's office, Canyon Fire Department, Globe Fire Department and the Tri-City Fire Department all responded to the bomb threat.

Johnson said there are severe penalties for falsely reporting a bomb threat to law enforcement and the Sheriff's Office will aggressively prosecute any and all violations of the law regarding bomb threats and/or false reporting to law enforcement.
