Parents: Register Children Early For Fall


The first day of school in Payson is Aug. 8. The Payson Unified School District encourages all students to register for the fall semester as early as possible for a better chance of getting the desired classes and schedules.

New student registration will take place between July 30 and Aug. 3 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Payson High School, 514 W. Wade Lane.

Registration dates for Payson High School are as follows:

Seniors: Monday, July 23 from 7 to 10 a.m. and 4 to 7 p.m.

Juniors: Tuesday, July 24 from 7 to 10 a.m. and 4 to 7 p.m.

Sophomores: Wednesday, July 25 from 7 to 10 a.m. and 4 to 7 p.m.

Freshmen: Thursday, July 26 from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. (all freshmen must register)

Current students at Payson High School simply need to arrive on the specified dates for registration and register for available classes. They do not need to bring any documentation.

However, new students to any of Payson's schools will need to bring current immunization records, a copy of his or her birth certificate and proof of withdrawal from the last school attended.

Registration dates for Rim Country Middle School are as follows:

Tuesday, July 24 from 4 to 7 p.m.

Wednesday, July 25 from 4 to 7 p.m. (Spanish translators available)

Thursday, July 26 from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Saturday, July 28 from 10 a.m. to noon

The Gila County Health Department will not be available for immunizations this year at Rim Country Middle School.

Students must be immunized before they will be allowed to register. Immunizations may be obtained at the Gila County Health Department, 107 W. Frontier Street in Payson. Call (928) 474-1210 for available times.

Payson Unified School District 10 also offers "Parent Community Liaisons" to help establish constructive, useful communication between families and schools. Call (928) 472-5735 or stop by the district office at 514 W. Wade Lane to schedule a meeting.

School officials suggest parents and students visit the district Web site, or go to their school in person to learn school rules and policies.

Parents can register students at Frontier, Julia Randall, or Payson elementary schools from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
