On Sunday, at 10:03 p.m., Tonto Basin Fire District responded to a major structure fire in the 100 block of Piper Place in Rancho del Escondido. A trailer was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived. Defensive measures were enacted to protect adjacent property. Two engines, a brush truck, two water tenders, a utility truck and an ambulance responded along with 13 fire district personnel.
According to Fire Chief Steven Holt, there were numerous explosions upon arriving on scene.
"We were concerned for the safety of the residents of the neighborhood and our crew," he said. "Fortunately, we had a great response from our personnel. And Payson Fire Department responded through mutual aid with an engine, a water tender, and a battalion chief. We are very grateful for their assistance."
The trailer and two storage sheds were completely destroyed, along with several vehicles. Two other properties received minor damage. No one was in the residence at the time of the fire, and there were no reported injuries.
The cause of the fire has not been determined.
