Muriel "Merle" (Shores) McCabe, 93, of Payson, formerly of Tempe, died July 27, 2007.
Mrs. McCabe was born in Arkansas, went to California in 1935 and came to Phoenix with her husband, Coble, in 1943. They resided in the Phoenix area until the mid-1970s, when they came to Payson.
They owned and operated Mac's Roofing in Phoenix and Payson. Mrs. McCabe was one of the great handcrafters of an era long gone. She loved to crochet, embroider, quilt and do virtually every craft. She also loved Elvis and his music.
She is survived by three children, Jean McCabe, Shannon Marshall, both of Payson and Sharon Lidstone of Sun Lakes. Also surviving is one brother, Kenneth Shores of Payson, eight grandchildren, Amber Marshall, Brett McCabe, Cheryl Woodard, Doni Liston, Justen Williams, Mike Patterson, Ricky and Wayne McCabe; five great-grandchildren, Aaron, Ashley, Kathleen, Marisa and Sierra; and nephew, Don Shores of Payson.
Mrs. McCabe was predeceased by her husband, Coble, her son, Duane and parents, Hattie and Alva Shores.
Services will be held at 9:30 a.m., Thursday, August 2 with visitation one hour before, at Resthaven Park Mortuary, 4310 E. Southern Avenue, Phoenix.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests gifts to Payson Hospice.
