Wanda Kay Owens, 64, died July 18, 2007 in Payson. She was born on July 8, 1943 in Mexico, Auxvasse, Mo.

She moved to South Phoenix with her parents and older brother in 1945. She attended Roosevelt Elementary School and graduated from South Mountain High School in 1961.

She worked and served as an LPN at Carl Hayden Veterans Hospital in Phoenix the past seven years and at the Veterans Hospital in Oklahoma City, Okla., the previous 10 years. She loved nursing and taking care of America's heroes, our military veterans.

Mrs. Owens was a resident of Deer Creek Village, Payson, for the past 18 months. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for 44 years, serving wherever she was called to serve. She loved serving in the primary and teaching the children to sing. The past 18 months, she attended the Tonto Basin Branch in Punkin Center with her husband, Charlie L. Owens.

She believed in serving others in this life and donated her body to Genesis Donor Program, so she can bless the lives of others through medical research.

Mrs. Owens is survived by her husband, Charlie L. Owens and five children, Wanda K. Sheppard of Oklahoma City, Okla. and Charles J. Owens, David C. Owens, Janet L. Owens, Casey J. Owens, all of Phoenix and five grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father, Ellis P. Vanlandingham, her mother, Velma L. Vanlandingham and her brother, Larry D. Vanlandingham.
