Robert Smith, 47, and Kimberly Marker, 40, both from Payson, were arrested and booked into the Gila County jail on charges of aggravated DUI and extreme DUI Tuesday morning, according to Sgt. Donald J. Garvin of the Payson Police Department.
According to Garvin, the suspects were allegedly seen driving erratically on Main Street, on sidewalks and around Green Valley Park by a Payson resident who called the police.
Garvin and Payson Police Officer Steve Daddabbo responded to the call and located the suspect vehicle in the 200 block of East Bonita Street.
"Smith had a BAC (Blood-Alcohol Content) reading of .161, and .163, and Marker (who was determined to be the driver of the vehicle) had a BAC of .197, and .199, more than twice the legal limit of .08," Garvin said,
Marker will face felony charges of extreme DUI. Smith faces misdemeanor DUI charges.
Garvin emphasized the fact that the suspects may not have been apprehended, if a concerned citizen had not called police.
"It is important for the community to call in suspicious driving or activity when they see it and help us catch the suspects," he said.
