Do you feel the change in weather? As soon as I walked out the door Wednesday morning, I could feel the air was a bit heavier. It would be just wonderful if Mother Nature decided we would have an early monsoon season this year.
I looked closely at my apple trees and I have a few apples. This year, there will not be as many apples for canning. It seems that the Jonathan apple trees took a big hit from the frost this season. There will not be as many apple pies for the Tonto Village residents this year.
Tonto Village Fire District
A red flag warning is in effect, which means no campfires, no open burning of any kind and no smoking within a forest area and all burn permits are canceled until further notice. If you have any questions, call the fire station at (928)478-4875.
Another session of the "Mini Fire Academy" for the volunteer firefighters will be held this Saturday, June 16, at the Tonto Village Fire Station. The first class begins at 8:30 a.m. Lunch will be provided by the Fireflies around noon, then classes will resume and continue until 5 p.m. Instructors from the Diamond Star Fire Department will be teaching the classes.
The monthly meeting of the Tonto Village Fire Board will be held on Tuesday, June 19 at 6 p.m. at the Tonto Village Fire station. The budget will be discussed and voted on by the fire board. Please attend this very important meeting, as this budget is your tax dollar and your voice should be heard.
The station is going through a major remodeling. A classroom is being renovated and a new office is being added on, including changing windows around, along with adding a new door for the back entrance. All of this work is possible because of the generous donation of supplies from Lumberman's in Star Valley.
At the last meeting of the auxiliary, on June 8, the Fireflies voted to participate in the first annual Star Valley Days on June 23 and sponsored by the Diamond Star Auxiliary. There will be a station set up to sell the raffle items that will be raffled off at the annual Labor Day Bash on Sept. 1 at the Tonto Village Chapel.
Tonto Village Water
A meeting is scheduled for Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Tonto Village Chapel to discuss the possibility of the residents of Tonto Village I, II and III to take over the water company. Your input is vital to this decision. Make it a point to listen to Steve Besich for the pros and cons of such a decision.
Grant and Marie Coley of Tonto Village II will celebrate their 42nd wedding anniversary on June 18.
They are proud grandparents and especially of one of them, namely, Garret Niver, 11, who has been chosen to be a youth ambassador from Coyote Hills School in Peoria.
Garret will be flying to Sydney, Australia and spending about two weeks with some of his fellow classmates.
Happy anniversary to you, Grant and Marie.
I hope you have marked your calendar for the latest melodrama put on by the Church of Jesus Christ Latter-day Saints in Christopher Creek on June 29, 30, and 31. The play is called "The Loathsome Lady or a King Arthur Tale."
This play is always so much fun to attend, and as always, there is no charge, except that tickets are required.
I am the contact person for tickets in Tonto Village, so call me at (928) 478-4575.
The gals of the village got together this past Tuesday evening at the Double D for their weekly game of nine-ball. Susie Shill, of T.V. III, Judy Tolle from Christopher Creek and Anna Rippe, daughter-in-law of Bobette Davis of Tonto Village I, were the top winners.
Sunday afternoons are for the eight-ball pool players and as usual, Cliff Landrum shot for first place.
Harvey Poyner and Payge Ferriera placed second and third. Congratulations to all the winners.
