Drivers fed up with the highly congested area near Frontier Street and Colcord Road by the post office may soon experience some relief.
The Surface Transportation Advisory Committee has developed a plan to ease the traffic flow by removing the one-way travel restrictions, creating a two-way street along Frontier Street in front of the post office.
In addition, the proposal includes adding right-turn-only restrictions at the intersections of Frontier and Highway 87 and Colcord and Main Street.
Town Engineer LaRon Garrett said the proposed modifications are an improvement on the current system. The one-way portion of Frontier Street is not necessary, he said.
The town will hold a public meeting regarding the possible changes at 6 p.m. Thursday, June 28 at Town Hall in the council chambers.
"If anyone has any opinions on these potential changes, I encourage them to come," Garrett said.
The proposed changes would have to be approved by the town council before they could be implemented.
Garrett said that, barring objection from the public or council, the changes could be implemented around August.
