John and Lindy Davis' Budget Blinds franchise allows them the buying power to give their customers the lowest prices on brand name window coverings and free installation.
"Budget Blinds is the largest distributor of blinds, so we get the best price on anything available from wood blinds, to cellular (that reduce energy costs) to draperies," John Davis said.
His company will meet any competitor's price on the same product, including retail giants Home Depot and Lowe's.
Free, in-home, by-appointment consultations are standard.
John's brother-in-law, Dean Carroll, is the contractor most often in the Payson area.
"We don't know how to be high pressure salesmen," John said. "We show our potential customers what we think looks good. Then they make a decision, yes or no."
Window coverings manufactured by Springs and Hunter Douglas are the number one and two best sellers. Budget Blinds also carries Norman Shutters, Kathy Ireland Home by Alta and Castec drapes.
"If we do not have a certain blind in our truck, it is because customers have not asked for it," Davis said.
Ordering it is not a problem.
The Online showroom at www.budgetblinds.com has thousands of window treatments to accent homes and businesses.
Wood blinds and honeycomb blinds are the trend right now, according to Carroll.
Electronic motorized blinds are popular in cabins with high windows.
Why should a home or business owner have blinds installed by a contractor?
"The No. 1 reason is a professional job with a low cost," Davis said. "You know it will be done right and there is never a charge for installation (in Arizona).
Budget Blinds offers lifetime service to fix blinds and parts. A customer does not need to go to the store or call the manufacturer, they can call Davis or Carroll directly.
If a blind breaks within five years the company offers one, free, no-questions-asked replacement. "It is another thing that makes us different," Davis said. Together, Davis and Carroll have more than five years experience, including many manufacturer's trainings, in their profession.
"We give our clients a quick course in how to use blinds," Davis said.
Blinds wear out if people do not use them properly. For instance, "If you don't pull towards the middle of the blind when you pull the string, you wear the string out," Dean said.
The home-based business is just right for Davis and his family.
A shoulder injury ended Davis' professional golfing career. So, he returned to the mountains of Arizona where he grew up, earned his contractor's license in window coverings and opened Budget Blinds in Snowflake.
Several weeks ago, the Davises celebrated the birth of a daughter.
Carroll moved to Payson with his family and is active, coaching T-Ball in his spare time.
