Construction Moves Forward For School Bond

Progress is being made in the renovations and additions to Julia Randall Elementary School and Rim Country Middle School, according to Henry Halikowski, project manager for the construction consulting firm Pinnacle One.

"Payson Unified School District is under way with the planning and design of two schools within the district," Halikowski said.

He said Julia Randall Elementary School will get an addition of a 60,000-square-foot facility. The addition will consist of a new gymnasium, new classrooms, a cafeteria and library, as well as an administrative office.

Halikowski said the old buildings at Julia Randall Elementary will be demolished, except for the historic rock building, which Halikowski assures will be preserved and remodeled, per the working of November's bond election.

Halikowski said the rock building will remain in its present location and will be remodeled on the inside to be used for office space.

Rim Country Middle School will be renovated, as well as receiving new additions. Renovations at Rim Country

Middle School will consist of the additions of a multipurpose building with band and choral rooms, a new administration building with special education classrooms, covered walkways and a new student drop-off area, Halikowski said.

The Payson Unified School District is employing SSPW (Schneider, Shay, Pian and Worcester, Architects LLP) of Scottsdale, who will serve as design consultants for Rim Country Middle School, and Emc2 Group, Architects and Planners of Mesa, who will be the design consultants for Julia Randall Elementary School.

Halikowski said the construction firm W.E. O'Neil will be responsible for construction at both projects.

Both projects are still in the programming phase, when designers and architects sit down with the school and district and decide what is needed by the students, teachers and administration. Halikowski said once the district has approved the programming, teams will begin schematic designs on the schools.

Following the design portion of the process, W.E. O'Neil Construction will join the design team to determine cost estimates and look at constructability reviews.
