Edwards To Recommend Payson Does Not Buy Water Utility

The Town of Payson Water Department staff has completed its investigation to determine if Payson should acquire the Payson Water Company from Brooke Utilities.

Their findings indicate that it would not be beneficial to the Town to purchase the utility, according to press release from Mayor Bob Edwards.

However, in the long term, it would be of great benefit for the communities (Star Valley, Whispering Pines and Mesa Del) currently served by Brooke for Payson to be their water supplier, Edwards said. It would provide them a permanent, reliable, safe diverse water supply. Additionally, it would not require any capital outlay or operating responsibility on their part, as Payson would become their water provider.

"At this time, I will not recommend to the council to pursue buying the utility, solely on our own," Edwards said. "I have invited the Town of Star Valley to meet to discuss the need for a regional water system and how to go about establishing it. Again, it is my belief that in the long term, the area would be better served by a regional approach."
