This past Friday was the Annual Ladies Pajama Party in Christopher Creek. Fifteen women showed up at Karen Thorton's home dressed in their favorite pj's and wearing some very funny slippers.
It was cold Friday evening and the snow was coming down lightly. It was definitely not a good night to be walking around in furry slippers, but it sure was fun.
This year's party was dedicated to Shelly Hansen, who passed away this past year. Shelly was always the life of the party and was deeply missed.
Everyone wore red ribbons on their pajamas in her memory.
There was so much food to eat, and beverages to drink. After a few hours of eating and storytelling, it was time to head to Creekside Steakhouse for a night of music and fun.
Only in Christopher Creek could 15 women dressed in pj's and fuzzy slippers head to the local restaurant and walk in without getting arrested.
I scraped the snow off my car and headed up the road, but I wasn't about to get out and walk in alone.
I waited for Sam Conklin, Doris Billings and Judy Toole as they were right behind me. We walked in together and it was funny to watch the expressions on the faces of the people inside eating.
Can you imagine just what they were thinking as they see these ladies dressed the way we were entering a restaurant? We got some funny looks and some whispering was going on.
Then Olive Matus, the owner of Creekside, went around and explained what was going on.
Mind you, Olive was also in her kitty pj's and slippers. They probably thought we were all crazy.
As we made our way into the bar to listen to the music being spun by John Marksbury, he was sitting there with a suit coat and tie.
But when he stood up, he was wearing pajama bottoms and little bunny rabbit slippers. He made us feel very welcome.
What made this year special was that Sam Conklin came back to town for this special occasion, as did Nancy Olson, former owner of Grey Hackle, and Doris Billings, who used to live in our wonderful community.
It was nice to reminisce with old friends. There was one gentleman sitting at the bar and every once in a while, he would look out the corner of his eye, but never really turned around or ask what in the world was going on. It was funny to wonder what he was thinking.
Those who attended this years PJ Party were Judy Toole, Karen Thornton, Rhea Hoedl, Doris Billings, Margo Holmes, Mimi Tidwell, Olive Matus, Nancy Olson, Sam Conklin, Debbie Farrell, Sonny Hunt and her cousin, Carrie Wrbanick, Shelly Sundra, Kathy Daugherty and yours truly.
The only two who showed up with curlers in their hair were Margo Holmes and Kathy Daugherty.
Karen Thornton was wearing her diva slippers, and Sonny Hunt had gorilla slippers and a straw hat. I have no idea what that was about.
Doris Billings had high heels on with her pj's and Olive Matus had cute little kitty pj's, with the kitty in the front and their tails in the back.
Sam Conklin had penguins on her pj's and Rhea Hoedl had strawberries and cherries on her pj's and slippers.
In all, it was a fun night for the ladies and they cannot wait until next year.
