Healing At Home

The care and concern for the Rim Country by the Payson Regional Medical Center reaches far beyond the walls of the hospital.

There are services provided at a variety of offices near the hospital and, if there is a need, services can even be brought to the patient's home through Home Health Services.

Anna Emerick has been receiving help from Payson Regional Medical Center Home Health Services for about two weeks. Nurse Lynda Freeman checks Emerick's blood pressure and other vital signs to see how she is doing. Emerick also sees a physical therapist in her home. She is recovering from a bad bout with rheumatoid arthritis and sciatica.

The staff of Home Health Services made 11,017 visits to patients during 2006, said Director Colleen O'Connor. "Our census has greatly increased." More than 500 patients were enrolled to receive services.

"Our average daily census -- patients being seen -- was 91.5 in 2006," she said.

She has a staff of 22 now working with Home Health.

Home Health Services benefit patients emotionally, psychologically and physically by allowing them to recover in the comfort and security of their own homes.

PRMC's Home Health Services is the only hospital-based home health agency in Rim Country.

It is licensed by the State of Arizona, Medicare, and is accredited by Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO).

The professionals affiliated with Home Health Services offer a wide range of nursing and therapy services including pain management and wound care.

Home Health Services also employs specialists in physical, speech and occupational therapy.

PRMC's Home Health Agency also assists clients with personal hygiene and linen changing.
