Dorothy (Dolly) Wilhelmina Meek French died Feb. 17, 2007 at the RTA Hospice in Payson.
She was born to Frederick H. and Caroline (Carrie) Faust Meek on May 3, 1921, in Centre County, Pa. She moved to Kittery, Maine with her parents in 1938.
She met and married Frederick R. French in 1939. She worked as a cook at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard during the war. After 17 years in Maine, the couple move with their three children to Las Vegas, Nev. in 1955.
Mrs. French continued to live in Las Vegas until 2005, and then health problems led to a moved to Strawberry, Ariz. to live with her daughter Ruth and family.
She is survived by her son, Frederick B. (Maria) French of Las Vegas, Nev., and grandchildren, David, Suzanne, Felicia, Shawn, Fred B. II and Nicole; daughter, Ruth Ann (Gordon) Rand of Strawberry, and grandchildren, Colleen and Donovan; daughter, Hope Starr (Phil) Craig of Pickens, S.C., and grandchildren, Kimberly and Matthew; 19 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; sister, Faye Jean (William) Elliot and brother, Lynn Barry (Adele) Meek.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick R. French; sisters, Mildred Meek Houser, Carol Ann Meek Vancour and Nancy Lou Meek Callanan; and brothers, Dennis (Tessie) Meek, William Meek, Buster Meek and Byron Meek.
She will be buried beside her husband Fred in the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City, Nev. A memorial service will be held at 11:20 a.m., March 26 in the Veterans Chapel.
