Golfers, get ready for a good time for a good cause.
The St. Vincent de Paul Tee Off for Hunger golf tournament is April 28. Register by April 1 and be entered in the tournament's early bird drawing for a free golf foursome at the Payson Golf Course. The deadline for regular registration is April 24.
Non-golfers can get in on the fun, too. Sponsor a hole for $150. A sign, in the shape of a golf ball, will be placed at "your" tee and you will receive a photo of it, along with a letter of thanks.
In addition to hole sponsors, businesses and individuals may sponsor contests or donate prizes for the day's raffles. Contact organizers Richard Roy at (928) 474-9559 or Joe Gasiel at (928) 472-9688 by April 20 to purchase a sponsorship spot, contest or to make a donation.
The four-person Shotgun Scramble tournament begins at 8 a.m. Saturday, April 28, at the Payson Golf Course, 1504 W. Country Club Drive.
The entry fee is $70 ($45 for Payson Golf Course members) and includes green fee, cart and buffet. All proceeds will go to the St. Vincent de Paul Society's Payson Food Bank.
Hole-in-One prizes include a 2007 Ford Explorer on Hole 8; $10,000 cash on Hole 2; a cruise vacation on Hole 5; a golf club set on Hole 14; and a Bose home audio system on Hole 17.
There will also be casino gifts, a variety of raffles and prizes for Closest to the Pin and Low Net Scores.
The community's generosity at last year's tournament helped the Payson Food Bank assist 3,827 families -- a total of 11,048 people -- with food and $30,282 in financial aid.
