The Tonto Village Fire Board is weighing its options after longtime fire chief J.R. Alliger tendered his resignation Feb. 27.
Board chairman Rick Washburn said the board's options include selecting a new fire chief, contracting with another fire district for chief responsibilities or waiting for results from the fire district merger study, which are expected in late summer.
The three-member board --Washburn, Gayle Fitch and Gloria Alliger, the wife of J.R. -- will meet Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the fire station to discuss its options.
Alliger was chief for more than nine years and said a disagreement with the board resulted in his resignation. He said he was proud of his time as chief.
"We started out 10 years ago with nothing and now we have equipment," he said. "I think we did a lot in 10 years."
