Wrestling Boosters Serve Up Fund-Raising Feast

Supporters of the Payson High School wrestling team have a tasty way to make some money.

The Payson Wrestling Boosters will host a fund-raising barbecue Saturday, with all the proceeds going toward spring and summer wrestling tournaments and clinics.

The barbecue will be held from noon to 4 p.m. at Rumsey Park. A $10 adult ticket will be good for all the barbecue beef, cowboy beans, coleslaw, bread and drinks the bearer can eat. A $10 ticket will also pay for two child meals.

Duke Wilbanks, a wrestling booster volunteer, said that all the food for the barbecue was donated to the boosters, something his club is very grateful for.

"We want to say ‘thank you' to all of the volunteers helping us out," he said.

The boosters hope to raise $5,000 for the Payson High School wrestling team. They have 500 total tickets available for the barbecue and still hope to sell the 300 remaining tickets by Saturday, Wilbanks said.

"It was difficult to sell tickets during spring break," he said. "We've probably sold a couple hundred so far. Hopefully, we can sell all of the tickets out there."

Wilbanks said the boosters will most likely have other fund-raising events planned in the future but the barbecue is the major event to fund the spring and summer clinics and tournaments.

The wrestling team will participate in a couple of clinics and plans to travel for at least one out-of-state tournament.

Tickets can be purchased from any booster member and are also available from some PHS wrestlers' parents. A ticket is not required to participate in the barbecue. Walk-up feasters can pay the day of the barbecue and are more than welcome, Wilbanks said.
