Before It Gets Hot, Clean Up Your Property

We thought it was awfully hot awfully early, and now it is cool again. The clouds today were moving quickly -- black, dark gray and light surrounding a little patch of bright blue sky. It was incredible. However, I hear warm weather is on the way again.

Before it gets hot, we need to be raking up leaves and pine needles and cleaning out those gutters. If we want the fire crews to protect our property, we need to do our part to make it defensible. If you want to know how your property stacks up or what you can do to make it more defensible, call the Pine Strawberry Fire Department at (928) 476-4272, and someone will come to your home and do a personal assessment.

Hopefully, you have noticed all the clearing and thinning that has been done around Pine and Strawberry. The goal is to have specific areas cleared, providing a space from which to fight and stop a fast-spreading fire. Mike Brandt and his crew are working hard to prepare us for this upcoming fire season.

Be sure to buy a ticket from the Riff Raff Club to help provide needed funds for medical costs of one of its members. There will be a potluck lunch at 2 p.m. tomorrow, Saturday, at the Sportsman Chalet in Strawberry. A 1988 Chevrolet Suburban will be auctioned off, as well as many other great items. The vehicle is on display at Ponderosa Market.

There are many new programs and activities for youth at the Isabelle Hunt Memorial Library. A special computer just for kids, a section of books just for teens and 'tweens and youth theater provide fun and opportunities. Check it all out. Also, the regular Children's Story Hour for ages 2 through 5 is each Wednesday at 10:15 a.m. at the library.

Come to the senior dining room each Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. and join the group for pinochle. All levels, from beginners to advanced, are welcome. Come, have fun and make new friends. For more information, call Katie at (928) 476-4380. A great lunch is available Monday through Friday at the Senior Center.
