The Shelby School is an Arizona charter school located in Tonto Village with an emphasis on academics and arts.
"The school's current push for progress is completing the multipurpose building on our campus allowing for future theatrical productions, assemblies and additional classrooms," said site principal Carol Moore.
Shelby currently serves approximately 70 students in grades kindergarten through 10th.
They have been longtime participants in Arizona State University's annual Martin Luther King poster contest.
In addition to striving for excellence in academics and communication, Shelby students enjoy designing tiles and clay objects using the school's two kilns.
Activities on the sports court include basketball, volleyball and kickball.
"Sometimes, progress is marked by our alumni," Moore said.
For example, Harper Kamp and his sister, Stevie, both played on championship basketball teams at Mountain View High School in Mesa.
Shelby alumni are excelling in many fields including education, nursing, foreign languages, ballet, horsemanship, chess, photography, computer sciences and the military, according to Moore.
