James William Barrett Jr. died March 29, 2007. He was born May 7, 1934 to James and Vera Barrett in Lamesa, Texas.
He graduated from the University of Arizona with a bachelor's degree in science and served in the Army from 1956 to 1958, where he was stationed in Japan for 18 months.
He returned to Arizona, where he went to work for the Arizona Game and Fish Department in 1961. He retired in 1985. He came to Payson in 1959 and joined the rodeo committee. He was Rodeo Boss from 1971 to 1984. He continued to serve as Arena Boss and served on the board until the present.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing with many friends and family, but most of all, he cherished the time he spent with his children and grandchildren.
He accepted Christ when he was 15 and has now gone home to be with Him and family.
Mr. Barrett is survived by his son, Cody James Barrett and his wife, Stacy Barrett, and two grandchildren, Hyatt James Barrett and Latigo Lee Barrett; his daughter T'hallalisa Cheyenne Barrett and John Jackson and grandson Rawlins Reed Barrett; and Ray Reed and his wife Patricia of Midkiff, Texas; the children's mother Debbie Smith; and numerous family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Brenda Lee Barrett and his sister, Marilyn Wester.
