An ill-fated crow crashed into the Tonto Basin substation that provides power to a large part of the Rim Country, bringing morning traffic to a crawl Wednesday.
Jan Parsons, manager for APS in the Rim Country, said the company has an aggressive program to limit the damage caused by raptors and other animals, but nothing is fail-safe.
The power went out at 6:31 a.m. Wednesday and was back on by 6:58 a.m.
Due to the way APS routes its power, the Tonto Basin incident cut power to 15,680 clients, Parsons said. Power was out as far north as Pine and Strawberry and also south of Tonto Basin.
