Finally, the oak trees are coming to life. That means it is really spring. The weather is beautiful, but we could certainly use some rain.

"Going Back to Bisbee" by Richard Shelton is the current OneBook AZ selection. The discussion, led by Ruth Neigh, will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 9, in the library activity building. Copies of this book are available at the Pine Library.

Mark your calendar for Wednesday, May 16. The Fiddler's Jam Session is at 1 p.m. in the Cultural Hall at the Pine Community Center. There will be lots of good music and good fun.

The Ice Cream Social, sponsored by the Senior Center, is at 2 p.m., immediately following the Fiddlers, in the Senior Dining Room. Beyond the ice cream and all your favorite toppings, there will be homemade cookies, brownies and cakes. Come visit with your neighbors, meet new friends and find out about all the fun activities going on at the Senior Center.

Volunteer of the Year, drum roll please, is Sheri Earp. Take Pride Project of Pine and Strawberry will present the plaque to Sheri during the Ice Cream Social at the Senior Dining Room on Wednesday, May 16. All who know Sheri are in agreement that she is most deserving of this award. Many letters of nomination mentioned her wide range of service to our communities, but she also does so many little things that go unnoticed. Please come and help us thank Sheri for her tremendous contribution to Pine and Strawberry.

The Pine Library Friends will not have a meeting in May. They are busy getting ready for their big Memorial Day Book Sale in the Library Activity Building at the rear of the Pine Community Center. The sale is Saturday and Sunday during the arts and crafts fair, May 26 and 27. Raffle tickets are on sale at the library for a beautiful Rim Country coverlet and a watercolor print of the original library building, painted by Ruth Rand. The drawing will be at 3 p.m. Sunday during the book sale. Volunteers are needed Thursday before the sale and also during the sale. There is a sign-up sheet at the library. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

The Pine-Strawberry Arts and Crafts Memorial Weekend Festival will be at the Pine Community Center on Saturday and Sunday, May 26 and 27. The guild is looking for some fresh new vendors with quality hand-made art and crafts. For booth information, contact Gail Jones at (928) 476-4480 or e-mail her at coolpc68@hotmail.com.

May youth activities at the Isabelle Hunt Memorial Library include the Pre-School Story Time for children 2 through 5 each Wednesday at 10:15 a.m. The After School Enrichment is each Thursday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. for ages 5 through 10. The Youth Theater group needs actors and actresses, teens and adults, for a fun children's play and a pirate puppet show. Call Sandy Carver at (928) 476-3678, or stop by the library.

The Fire Board meets the third Wednesday of each month at the Pine Fire Station meeting room. Lots of things have appeared in the various papers and rumors are flying. We should all take an interest in our Fire Board and attend these meetings. This month's meeting is 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 16.
