Randall Lewis, 24, of Phoenix, who was taken into custody without incident, following a police chase on Monday, has been turned over to Coconino County authorities.
The Payson Police Department was contacted about a stolen vehicle, headed toward Payson from Flagstaff, driven by a possible homicide suspect.
The PPD had seven officers involved in the stop, along with four officers from the Department of Public Safety, a DPS helicopter from Phoenix and a deputy from the Gila County Sheriff's Office, said Police Commander Don Engler.
Once Lewis was taken into custody, he was transported to the Payson Regional Medical Center for attention to a thumb injury. It is believed the injury was sustained prior to the stop in Payson.
Engler said his department has received little additional information on the reason Lewis was considered a homicide suspect. However, they were told it was related to the owner of the stolen vehicle Lewis was driving.
