'Jake's Corner' Announces Cast, Summer Filming Schedule

Scottsdale writer/director Jeff Santo is shooting his next film, "Jake's Corner" from May 14 to June 10. Filming will take place in the actual high desert town of Jake's Corner and in the cities of Scottsdale, Phoenix, and Payson. It is a family drama about former University of Arizona Heisman Trophy Winner, Johnny Dunn, who years before moved far away from the spotlight after a family tragedy ... and is now forced to care for his young nephew who has survived a family tragedy of his own. The lives of Johnny and the eclectic ensemble who reside and work in the town are forever changed, after his young nephew comes to live with him.

Santo was so inspired by the rustic charm of Jake's Corner consisting of a general store, a bar and the nice folks who live in the trailers in the surrounding area, that he decided to make it the backdrop for his next screenplay. The story is fictional, but the town is real.

The filmmakers held an "open casting call" for the character of Spence, the co-lead in Jake's Corner. Arizona native, Colton Rodgers, 11, has been selected, from among hundreds of other talented young men in the state. While Santo is casting the majority of his latest film with Arizona talent, there are some familiar Hollywood names already on board.

Richard Tyson will play the lead role of Johnny Dunn. Film credits include "Black Hawk Down," "Kindergarten Cop," "There's Something About Mary," "Liar's Poker" and "Three O' Clock High."

Diane Ladd will play Fran. Ladd is a three-time Academy Award nominee for her work in Martin Scorsese's "Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore," David Lynch's "Wild at Heart" and Martha Coolidge's "Rambling Rose." Film credits include "Chinatown," "Citizen Ruth," "Ghosts of Mississippi," and "The World's Fastest Indian."

B.J. Thomas will play Doc and sing six new songs written for Jake's Corner. He is a five-time Grammy Award winner and the singer behind multi-platinum hits like, "Raindrops Keep Fallin' on my Head," "Hooked on a Feelin'," and "Somebody Done Somebody Wrong Song." Thomas is also the only artist to have a "Song of the Year" on pop, country, and gospel charts.

David Della Rocco will play Wheels. "Rocco" achieved cult status in the acclaimed underground blockbuster, "The Boondock Saints."
