Constructing The Future

Payson High School wants to congratulate teacher Richard Alvarez's building trades class for a spectacular performance in the Fifth Annual Arizona Skills USA Construction Championships.

More than 350 students competed in many events, ranging from construction math to construction technology and carpentry.

PHS competitors, Porter Wilbanks, Brice Moran, T.J. Harris and B.J. Hill came home with two third-place, two fourth-place, two fifth- and two seventh-place awards.

The young men won medals and cash for their achievements.

Building trades students also helped on several phases during the construction of Payson Area Habitat for Humanity's House No. 13.

The 2006-07 class has been continually involved with community projects, such as furniture for Child Protective Services' children's waiting room. They are also building the new jail-on-wheels for the Payson Pro Rodeo Committee and a wagon for the Northern Gila County Historical Society and the 125th Anniversary of Payson.
