E.D. (Elmer) Shewey, 84, of Payson, died April 28, 2007. He was born Sept. 15, 1922 in Horse Cave, Ky.
Mr. Shewey spent his childhood years in Tulare, Calif., where he graduated from Tulare High School.
He joined the Army Air Corps during World War II and served as a B-24 combat nose gunner, assigned to the 515th BS, 376th BG, completing 20 successful European and North African missions, in which he received both bronze and silver medals.
He married Alpha Rigsby following the war. They moved to Chandler, Ariz. in 1947, started a family and operated Rasco 5 & 10 Stores for the next 22 years.
Following a brief stay in Lewistown, Idaho, Payson has been Mr. Shewey's home for the past 36 years.
He was a member of the Payson Elks Lodge and a former owner of the Payson Diamond Dart Motel.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Alpha; daughters, Marlene Sinclair-Martin and Linda Gantzel; sons Merle (Debbie) and Mark Shewey; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 17 at National Memorial Veterans Cemetery, 23029 North Cave Creek Road, Phoenix, AZ 85024.
