The Town of Payson is pleased to announce our fourth annual Payson Citizens Leadership Academy.
This year's program, which we might also call "Payson Local Government 101," kicks off in August and is co-sponsored by Arizona Public Service Company.
Have you ever thought about running for Town Council or serving on a board, committee or commission, but were intimidated by your lack of knowledge about our Town government? Or do you just want to learn more about your town to become a better-informed citizen?
The Payson Citizens Leadership Academy may be just what you've been looking for.
Beginning Aug. 21, this year's Academy will have nine classroom sessions and a facilities tour. Each session will be devoted to one or more different aspects of the Town's organization.
Here is the preliminary class schedule, with most classes starting at 6 p.m. and including refreshments. Classes are held in the Payson Public Library community room and Town Hall.
Aug. 21: Orientation, presentations by mayor and councilors, general information about structure of Town government, presentations by town manager and town clerk, discussion of initiatives, referendum and recall
Sept. 4: Legal; human resources
Sept. 11: Fire
Sept. 18: Library; Parks and Recreation
Oct. 2: Planning; building; economic development
Oct. 9: Public Works; Water; Engineering departments
Oct. 20: Facilities tour; water resource presentation; water facilities; parks
Oct. 23: Finance and budget; airport
Oct. 30: Police
Nov. 6: Chamber of Commerce; PREDC; Council operating procedures; boards, committees, commissions
Enrollment is free and open to any Payson resident 18 years of age and older (or high school seniors of any age), but is limited to 25 participants. Applications are available at Town Hall, 303 N.
