Robert E. Metzger, 64, of Payson, died May 7, 2007. He was born in Nyack, N.Y.
After graduation, he served in the U.S. Navy submarine service from 1960-1967. He was stationed on a nuclear submarine out of Scotland.
In 1998, he retired from Exxon after 30 years. During his career with Exxon, he had the opportunity to live in California, the Philippines and Texas and traveled to many countries. He helped develop the patent for the online leak repair in the refinery and chemical industries, which continues to greatly improve the environment. His interests after retirement continued to be submarines and autos, from his first '47 Dodge to his recent '97 Ford. He loved researching his family genealogy and even traveled to Russia and Lithuania for further information on his family.
He is survived by Brigette Metzger; his children, Debbie, Metzger Adelberg and Bobby Metzger, daughter-in-law, Kelli Metzger and son-in-law, Rob Adelberg; grandchildren Jakob Metzger, Ryan Metzger, Rachel
Adelberg, Benjamin Adelberg and his mother, Theresa Metzger.
A private family service will be held on the Mogollon Rim in Payson, and the National Memorial Cemetery of Phoenix.
