Gila Community College officials have begun the search for a dean of the Payson campus to replace Harry Swanson, who resigned several weeks ago.
Swanson will finish his contract. His last day will be June 30.
GCC Senior Dean Margo Bracamonte said she hopes the vacant position will be filled by Aug. 1.
Bracamonte said the college has already begun advertising the position in newspapers and on job search Web sites.
A "screening committee" will be established to review applications and narrow down the possible candidates before ultimately conducting interviews and selecting a replacement for Swanson, she said.
Hiring through a screening committee is standard procedure for any full-time position at the college.
The committee will consist of college board members, members of the community or deans of the college, she said.
The college is looking for a new dean with previous experience.
"We're looking for someone with community college experience," she said. "Someone who can go out and promote the college and the community."
Bracamonte and Stephen Cullen, Gila Pueblo campus dean, will be filling in at the Payson campus throughout the summer after Swanson's last day.
The college will continue with its normal summer school regimen and will not experience any changes over the summer months, due to the absence of a dean, Bracamonte said.
She commended Dean Swanson's efforts in his nearly two years at the college.
"Dean Swanson has done an extraordinary job for us," she said. "His campus has the highest increased enrollment of any of our campuses. He's a man of great integrity. He will be missed."
