As the Tonto Apache Tribe prepares to open its new Mazatzal Hotel and Casino, it is planning for a future as a priority destination for travelers in the state.
In order to head in that direction, Director of Marketing Farrell Thompson has been let go.
The marketing position was held by Thompson until May 10.
"He was not meeting expectations," said Sabrina Campbell, executive secretary of the Tonto Apache Tribal Council.
She said Thompson was let go because the casino administration was not seeing the promotions it wanted, in order to make the operation "the state's No. 1 casino destination."
Thompson was escorted off the property, which is standard procedure, said Tribal Controller Jerry Holland.
The interim general manager of the casino, Steve Salatti, and the rest of the administrative team have not selected a replacement for Thompson, Campbell said. They are still looking at potential candidates.
She said if someone is interested in applying for the post, they should make an appointment with the casino's human resources office.
