Robert Eugene Mastin


Robert Eugene Mastin died May 8, 2007, after a long battle with Alzheimer's. He was born Nov. 14, 1921 in Phoenix and grew up on a dairy farm in Arizona.

On Dec. 24, 1941, he and Aileen married in Salome, Ariz. He then left Arizona to serve as an aviation machinist's mate in the Navy during World War II and was discharged in March 1946.

He then worked with Convair and resided in El Cajon, Calif. In 1950, he returned to Phoenix, where he owned and operated a dairy farm. In 1976, he retired and moved to Payson. Upon retirement, he and his wife traveled with family and friends across the United States in their motor home.

Mr. Mastin bowled in several leagues and was a member of the Payson Elks Club. In 2004, the Mastins moved to Bolivar, Mo.

Mr. Mastin is survived by Aileen Vivian Mastin, his wife of 65 years, his daughter Marlene D. Mellecker, both of Bolivar, Mo., son and daughter-in-law, Robert E. and Maura J. Mastin of Globe, Ariz., sister Margaret Cline of Green Valley, Ariz., Donald E. Mastin of Chino Valley, Ariz.; seven grandchildren, Carl and Cindy Eichorn of Arizona, Charlene Eichorn of Texas, John and Wendy Mastin of California, Anthony and Susan Slater of Arizona, Jeremy and Brenda Hitt of Kansas, Robert and Lizette Mastin III of Arizona, Chad and Heather Mastin of Arizona and 19 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, John Wesley Mastin, his mother, Mary Alice Miller Mastin, his brothers, Harry E. Mastin, John E. Mastin and his sisters, Stella Hilbers and Nellie Barr.

Burial will be at a later date.

Donations may be sent to Citizens Memorial Hospice in Bolivar, Mo. Arrangements are under the direction of Pitts Chapel of Greenlawn Funeral Homes in Bolivar, Mo.
