Wildlilfe Fair

Those who helped stage the Payson Wildlife Fair deserve a huge pat on the back for hosting a successful, educational and exciting event.

Throngs of young and old alike attended the free fair held May 13 at Green Valley Park.

Among the most popular attractions of the day were free fishing clinics, a pellet gun shoot and self-guided canoe rides. For all those who opted for free fishing, bait, tackle and instruction was provided. The Arizona Game and Fish Department stocked the lake days before the fair with plenty of catchable-size trout. The presence of those fish greatly enhanced fishing opportunities that day.

Several children pulled in nice-sized rainbows.

Other highlights included wildlife displays, hands-on activities and an appearance by Smokey Bear. Visitors also had the opportunity to view live birds, fish and reptiles. Jack Koon and his fellow Mogollon Sporting Association members were on hand to barbecue hot dogs and hamburgers.
