School will be out next week and the Control Road will be extra busy with Scouts going to the two Scout camps. Be extra careful and keep to your extreme right, especially on hills and curves.
As we can see on the news, fire danger is really high right now, so please be careful with anything that may cause a wildfire.
It is too late to safely burn your brush piles, so debris will have to be taken to one of the brush pits. The Chase Creek brush pit will be open the second Saturday and fourth Sunday of the month, unless Forest Service restrictions are in place.
A surprise birthday luncheon was given for Estelle Savage and Eleanor Barnes on April 30 at the East Verde Baptist Church in Whispering Pines. Both ladies are 80 years young and have been huge supporters of WPFD since its start in 1975. Estelle is currently the President of the WPFD Auxiliary.
Kenny Savage, a WPFD retiree, is in the Rim Country Health and Retirement Community on Longhorn Road. For those who want to visit him, you may do so at any time. You may contact his wife, Estelle at (928) 474-9526.
The family movie night for this month will be May 19 at Station 71. The movie will be "Walking Across Egypt." Come on over at 7 p.m. for movie fun and snacks.
A bake and book sale will be held at Station 71 on Saturday, May 26, from 8 a.m. to noon. Please bring books and baked goods to the station to help with the auxiliary fund-raiser. Tickets will be sold for the quilt raffle.
The Whispering Pines Neighborhood Association will have their Memorial Day weekend meeting at Station 71 on Saturday, May 26 at 1 p.m.
The next Pancake Breakfast will be on June 9, from 8 to 10 a.m. at Station 71. Come on over for pancakes, bacon, sausage and a good time visiting with neighbors.
The next WPFD board meeting will be on June 20 at 6 p.m. The meeting will be later in the month than usual to include a public meeting on the budget. As usual, the public is invited to Station 71 for the meeting.
Now is the time to start planning your Fourth of July parade entry. The parade will be on Saturday, June 30. A barbecue luncheon will be held at Station 71 after the parade.
On Sunday of Memorial Day weekend, there will be a neighborhood potluck at the home of Harry and Nancy Jones on Sierra Vista Lane, starting at 4 p.m. Everyone in Rim Trail is invited.
We lost one of our good neighbors a couple of weeks ago. James Camuso, of Unit One, suddenly passed away in Phoenix. Our sympathy goes out to his wife, Patty.
The Geronimo Property Owners Association will meet at Geronimo Station 73 on Saturday, May 26. A potluck will be at 9:30 a.m. and the meeting will begin at 10 a.m.
The Geronimo Property Owners Association and Whispering Pines Fire District will have an old-fashioned family and friends picnic at 1209 W. Paint Pony Drive. The free hamburger and hot dog (with all the trimmings) picnic will be to say "thank you" to all of those in our community who donated funds and helped build our beautiful fire station.
With a lot of construction going on, dust in Geronimo Estates is at an all-time high. Please drive slowly through the community and your neighbors will appreciate it.
