Registration is now open for the Payson Fire Department's Safe Sitter class.
Students must be between the ages of 11 and 15 to apply. Space is limited to the first 12 applicants.
The Safe Sitter program teaches young adolescents how to handle emergencies when caring for younger children.
Trained instructors will give all the information.
During the course, students get hands-on practice in basic lifesaving techniques, so they are prepared to act in a crisis.
Safe Sitters also receive helpful tips to make them more confident caregivers. They learn safety precautions and how to understand and deal with children of different ages. They also learn about the business aspects of babysitting.
To successfully complete the Safe Sitter program, students must pass a practical and written test and show that they have mastered the key concepts and have the skills necessary to handle an emergency.
The cost for the Safe Sitter class is $20.
To register your son or daughter, or your child's babysitter, call the Payson Fire Department at (928) 474-5242, ext. 300.
