Man Arrested For Possession Of Child Pornography

A 75-year-old Payson man has been arrested and charged with 10 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor.

The Payson Police Department originally started receiving information on May 16, 2007 from citizens, regarding a male subject residing in the 200 block of South Ponderosa. The information indicated that the man was likely in possession of illegal pornography, specifically child pornography.

When the Investigating Division of the Payson Police Department began its inquiry, it was able to confirm the information. Through the investigation, the team impounded a computer and several books -- described as photo-type albums by the PPD -- of printed illegal child pornography photographs. It was also discovered, the suspect is a registered sex offender and has been in the area about six years.

"There are hundreds, if not thousands, of photographs that are impounded as evidence in this case," said PPD Commander Don Engler. The investigation is continuing. "We are looking into whether there was any actual contact with minors."

Through the investigation, a search warrant was issued and served at the residence of the suspect. He was subsequently booked into the Gila County Jail and is being held on $100,000 bond.
