Safeway Hosts Fund-Raiser For Prostate Cancer

Rim Country residents and visitors can help raise money and awareness about prostate cancer this weekend at Safeway.

The Payson Safeway will host an arts and craft fair this weekend, as part of its ongoing fund-raising campaign for the Prostate Cancer Foundation. The store and its staff have been conducting fund-raising efforts throughout May and June.

Among the activities have been special green chile burrito and brats sales.

Another event is a raffle for a custom-decorated wagon floral display, which can be seen in the store's east lobby.

Raffle tickets are $1 each, eight for $5, or 40 for $20. They are available at the customer service desk and at special events at the store. The drawings will be held the last weekend of June and winners will be notified by phone.

Safeway has been assisted with the raffle by Home Depot and Ace Hardware, which donated the flowers.

The next big event in the campaign is an early Memorial Day picnic from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. today, Friday, with bratwurst, hot dogs, chips and soda, as well as music by DJ Craig. Raffle tickets for the floral display, selected craft items and artwork will also be sold.

This will be followed by events from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, May 26. A Craft and Art Fair will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Approximately 20 booths will be featured, mostly with local arts and crafts.

In addition to the numerous booths, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. there will be bratwurst, hot dogs, sodas and chips, and raffle tickets for several items that have been donated by the vendors.

KCMA will air a live broadcast from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
