Thanks To Tall Pines Market For Aid During Fire

The Promontory Fire is completely contained and the residents want to sincerely thank everyone who worked so hard to put this fire out. Know that all of you are appreciated.

On Monday, Chief Ray Larsen presented Debbie Aschbrenner, owner of Tall Pines Market, with a certificate of appreciation from the Arizona Central West Zone Fire Team for her invaluable support during the Promontory Fire in Tonto National Forest. Incident commander Tony Sciacca presented the award.

Debbie made her property available for a public meeting about the Promontory Fire for the news media, all residents of the district, county supervisors and Ed Armenta of the Forest Service. An information officer was on hand at Debbie's store throughout the fire. Thanks, Debbie.

Now that the fire is contained, this community can get on with the Memorial Day weekend festivities.

On Saturday, May 26, from 1 to 6 p.m. there will be a Brats and Burgers Lunch, a bake sale, ice cream, cold drinks, great raffle prizes and a wonderful silent auction. All proceeds will benefit the Christopher Creek Community Fuel Break Fund. Some of the wonderful items include: Two second-row Phoenix Suns tickets (any game next season), a round of golf and lunch for three at the Rim Country Club, a hummingbird print by local artist Marilyn Salomon, a round of golf and lunch for three at Chaparral Pines, a portrait package by Dennis Hess, two-night stay at Wooden Nickel Cabins, two-night stay at Christopher Creek Lodge Cabins and many more items, with new ones added daily.

On Sunday, May 27, from 2 to 4 p.m., the band Mogollon has agreed to give a benefit performance for your entertainment. They will be playing in the open air at the old Creekside Trailer Park site. Bring chairs or a blanket.

No coolers allowed. They will be selling cold drinks and beverages on site. The suggested donation to the Fuel Break Fund is $10 adults, $5 for children and $30 for a family. If you have baked goods for the bake sale, drop them off on Saturday after 10 a.m.

They need volunteers for this community event and you can call Karen Thornton at (928) 478-4133, if you can help in any way.

Come out and support this Fuel Break fund and bring the family for a day of fun.

If you haven't donated to the Fuel Fund now is the time to do so. Any amount is appreciated. Write your check today, payable to C-K Firebelles Fuel Fund, and mail to CCHA, HC2 Box 121-P, Payson, AZ 85541. Once again, thank you.

The forest is dry and we need to have a firebreak around our community and be ready for the next fire. We need to be more defensible against fires for decades to come. Thanks to all who donated.

Starting at 5 p.m. the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is holding its annual Memorial Day potluck and barbecue in Christopher Creek on Apple Lane. All residents are welcome to attend.
